WASHINGTON, DC RESIDENCE

What began as a unique assignment to design a custom rug for a client’s new home, turned into a multi-room project with a focus on the Entry, Dining Room and Master Bedroom.  The owners of this Washington, DC condo had downsized from a much larger home and were interested in creating a serene yet modern environment.  This historic building dating from 1919, which includes both residential living and artist's studios, is inherently industrial.  A small but playful vignette was added in the Entry to set the stage for a bright and colorful residential space.  A custom wool and silk area rug was designed for the Dining Room to coordinate with the abstract patterning of the specialty painted concrete floor and provides a soft matte and sheen effect .  In the Master Bedroom, another wool and silk rug was designed to give the illusion of rippled water and to provide a counterpoint to the rough edges of the exposed brick wall and linear patterning of the industrial interior.
